Joseph Maida grew up in Fort Washington, PA and received his BA in Architecture from Columbia University in 1999. He then began studying photography and he received his MFA from Yale University in 2001 where he studied with Richard Benson, James Casabere, Gregory Crewdson, Lois Conner, Philip Lorca di Corcia, Catherine Opie, Tod Papageorge, and Laurie Simmons. He has shown in group exhibitions at: the University of the Arts, Philadelphia (2001); Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT (2001); The Print Center, Philadelphia, PA (2001); Society for Contemporary Photography, Kansas City, MO (2000); and Art In General, New York, NY (1999). Maida currently works as a freelance photographer for magazines such as Details, Rant, and Parade, and teaches a course at The International Center of Photography in New York based on his own series, Interior Portraits. He lives in New York City.
