Sarah Lucas initially was associated with the Young British Artists emanating from the Saatchi Gallery, London in the 1990s. Lucas studied at the Working Men's College, London (1982-83), the London College of Printmaking (1983-84) and at Goldsmith's College, London (1984-87). After participating in Damien Hirst's Freeze exhibition at the PLA building, London (1988), Lucas's fist solo was Penis Nailed to a Board at City Racing, London in 1992. In the following year Lucas participated in the "Young British Artists II" at the Saatchi Gallery, London, which was later followed by Sensation at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in 1999.

Lucas's work has been exhibited throughout the world. Her most recent solo exhibitions include: Self-Portraits 1990-98, Tomio Koyama Gallery, Tokyo (2000); Beyond the Pleasure Principle-Sarah Lucas at the Freud Museum, Freud Museum, London (2000), The Fag Show, Sadie Coles, HQ, London (2000); Odd-bod Photography with Angus Fairhurst, Sadie Coles HQ, London and Kölnischer, Kunstverein, Cologne; The Old In Out, Barbara Gladstone Gallery, New York, NY (1998); The Law, St. Johns Loft, London (1997); Car Park, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany (1997); and Bunny Gets Snookered, Sadie Coles HQ, London. Lucas currently works and lives in London.
